For me, 2017 was a year of readjustment. I adjusted to life in the United States (having spent all of 2016 in New Zealand), life in a new city, and life in a new job. New friends, new co-workers, new habits, new lifestyle.
There was a fair bit of job searching too. Job searching has been a constant of my life since I graduated university, and hate that it is. Though I’m not doing it currently, I hate that I might start it again in the next couple months. Long story, I prefer not to get into it.
Here on the blog, things have been fairly quiet, especially these past six months. Retro Recaps expanded to other shows, notably with the V franchise and Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, both of the 1980s. Things ground to a halt in July because of . . . job searching. Sigh. Over on The Potted Lid, I wrote a couple essays about mecha anime, some of which aren’t on my “official” to-watch list for that project.
I started a newsletter (Shareable Curiosities), which I’m wont to do when projects start tapering off. However, I feel stretched pretty thin already what with my current goals for the new year, so the release schedule will change. I will also start cross-promoting it on this blog, so watch out for that.
The top posts for 2017 closely align with the top posts of all time for this humble blog. I’m pretty sure someone in Japan kept re-reading the top post, which contributed to it’s standing as no. 1. Thank you, random individual. I hope my post helped you with whatever it was you were doing. I don’t have much to say about the second top post. The third top post is back from when I was covering Stargate SG-1. It’s placement speaks to the level of popularity it’s garnered, even if the community around it is not very communicative.
